What Differentiates Media Blogs

In an upcoming class I will be distinguishing the difference between a tradition media site and a media blog - it is an important distinction for people to be able to make - one is much more so bound by ethical and professional codes, and follows a "different set of rules" accordingly - the traditional media site is a converged (online) version of content that is available in another format - a format from which that media company makes the most profit (generally speaking) from.
There are those media entities that are online only, such as the Huffington Post and Politico...for the most part, they exemplify the characteristics associated with media blogs much more so than their traditional counterparts. Outsiders have even identified them as blog site - just check wikipedia if you don't believe me. There are also aggregated news sites, such as MSN, AOL, and Yahoo. AOL in fact supports blogs like the Huffington Post and the Drudge Report, among others. What distinguishes these blog sites is that they don't carry much, if any, original content of their own; they merely link you to content that can be found elsewhere on the web. Any original content they do carry is online-only.
